"Sooner or later, we will have to recognize that the Earth has rights, too, to live without pollution. What mankind must know is that human beings cannot live without Mother Earth, but the planet can live without humans."
I remember almost 24 weeks ago, I started being intentional to produce less waste when I saw an image of a whale that washed ashore in Philippines and it was found to have 40 kg of plastic inside its stomach. , I felt so disappointed and miserable for my unintentional disrespectful impact of using plastic that I bounded myself to not buy anything that is plastic anymore but to my horrible surprise, most of the things I was using were in plastic.
from the straw to the shoes I wore used plastic. So I decided to buy things I only need rather than the things I liked at the store.
And let me tell you what I mean with this, when we go to a store, we are attracted to the most inconsiderate things whatever you do you will end up buying lots of things that you like but don’t need them when you don’t have a list of what you came to buy.
With my intent to reduce the amount of waste I was producing on my personal level, I had to give up a lot of stuff. The first thing I gave up was straws as I saw a lot of videos that were subjected on how single use items were ending up in oceans and having a very negative impact on marine life, I even saw a video of a turtle that stuck up a straw in its nostril so my main focus was straws, I gave up tetra pack juice that came with straws, I even asked for no straw please when I ordered a drink out on lunch.
The next thing I followed was I didn’t bought any snacks that came in a plastic wrapper and then I realize most of them were available in a plastic wrapper so I end up doing healthy snacks, instead of buying anything that would add to waste bins I made up my lunch.
I kept a bag with me to keep my waste to myself until I find a bin to dump it in.
I posted all the updates on my social accounts about being intentional to reduce the amount of waste I produced and a lot of friends stood with me for this kindness.
On that day I realized its not what you’re complaining about, its what you are doing to make the situation better. I think its so important for us to realize the need of the moment, it’s the earth that in-habitats us, its our home and we should be responsible to protect it.
This series of #lesswaste will focus mainly on how you can reduce waste on your personal level.
